The Blue Java has a reputation that sounds like marketing until you eat one. The fruit is genuinely custard-textured and tastes distinctly of vanilla ice cream, and the immature bunches are a ghostly silvery-blue before ripening to pale yellow.
It is also the toughest banana in our catalog. Blue Java handles wind, brief cold snaps, and less-than-perfect soil far better than a Cavendish, and it is reliably root-hardy down into zone 8 with mulch. If you want one banana plant that will actually survive you, this is it.
