Elite Gold — the MD-2 cultivar — is the golden pineapple that took over the produce aisle in the 2000s, and for good reason. It is sweeter than the older Smooth Cayenne types, four times higher in vitamin C, and has a rich golden flesh with a firm, juicy texture.

Care notes

Very heat tolerant. Water into the central cup during dry spells — pineapples absorb moisture through the leaf bases as well as the roots. Protect from frost.
